As the year is coming to an end, it is time to reflect on some of the most popular interior design trends for 2019 and touch on some of the up and coming trends for the year ahead. These design trends range from colours to fittings and design statements that were popular throughout the year.
1. The Sophisticated Neutral Colour Scheme

A neutral colour scheme has been popular for a while, in the interior and exterior of the home. This design trend is covered over all styles such as Scandinavian, modern and industrial. The neutral colours extend from crisp white, neutral brick colours, light shades of wood with pops of light grey. This colour scheme has the ability to make a house more homely, through layering textures, patterns and adding different elements to soften the room such as pillows, curtains and a rug.

Everyones love for houseplants has gone through the roof this year! Houseplants are able to soften the space that has furniture with hard corners, angular lines and a darker, crisp colour scheme. Hanging plants and tall pants are also able to promote the height of a room and will fill dead space in the corners. Plants also add a pop of colour without clashing with other colours in the scheme especially if the colour scheme is very neutral, staying away from bold colours. Lighting pendants are a big trend of 2019, especially over the kitchen island bench. They provide an eye catching wow factor, creating an inviting and comforting feel, especially when personalised to your home.
Some of these trends include the exposed cords, which provides a rustic, unfinished look in the best way possible. The mix and match trend over dining room tables, brings a sense of excitement to a room that is usually simply decorated. Another trend includes the sculptural pendant light which provides a playful yet stylish take on lighting. Finally modern light fixtures with clean, sleek lines provide a timeless feel.

Recycling is popular now but it will continue to grow, with millions applying their creativity to make new, unique pieces of furniture form their old ones. Technology have continuously upgraded for interiors to the point where everything in your home can be considered 'smart' for example advancement to the google home, smart kitchens when you can have your fridge read you recipes, see whats in the fridge without touching the handle and syncing your grocery list to your phone. An app where you can turn on your bath from downstairs and it will stop when its full. Other smart features include virtual reality, advancements to smart television and more voice enables divides will be added around the home for convenience.
